Meet Natalie Dallaire

I grew up in Tecumseh Ontario. A quiet town in South-Western Ontario surrounded by the great lakes. Raised in a multicultural household by a Costa Rican mother and French Canadian father. From my mom I learned how to sew from a young age making costumes for my stuffed animals and inherited her entrepreneurial savvy. From my dad I got my appreciation for nature and travel along with the skills and joy of making and fixing things by hand. Through the years I’ve always been curious and turned trying new hobbies into a hobby itself. But fashion and costume design have always held a special place in my heart.

I worked for two years at a distillery in Amherstburg as part of their marketing team after graduating from Business Administration and Marketing at St. Clair College in 2020. I learned a lot about the importance of how small businesses interact with and support their communities. But my creative spark was crying for more. So, in 2022 I returned to St. Clair, this time to study Fashion Design. I had found my muse. Making an effort to study and hone my skills has shown me that I possess the ability to see the possibilities in old textiles, to turn them into something entirely new.

Fashion is a creative medium that every person uses to express themselves. But clothing brands these days only offer generic and simplified garments in the name of low costs, instead of pushing boundaries and creating art that resonates with individuals.

I founded Miss Magpie Atelier as an answer to this sea of apathy. A slow fashion apparel company that uses upcycled materials to create high quality, unique pieces that put style before fashion. Miss Magpie allows me to combine all my skills and passion to create art that reflects my eclectic style in a sustainable way.
